You don’t want to spend any more boring holidays. Do you want to escape from your everyday life, even if it were just for a moment? Well, why are you complaining so much? It isn’t so difficult to find what you are looking for. You only have to visit any European capital and participate in one of the funniest flashmobs!

If you have no idea what I’m talking about, don’t worry! It’s not a sect, or a new discotheque, neither is it a new festival. A Flashmob is an action organized and carried out by a huge number of persons. This group meets spontaneously at a public place and carries out unusual things. After some minutes the mob dissolves very quickly and it seems as if nothing had happened. These actions are organized previously via Internet. The majority of them have only one aim: pure entertainment.

flashmobs

The idea goes back to the publication of the book “Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution” written by the sociologist Howard Rheingold in 2002. This book talks about the next generation using new technologies for a kind of self-organization. This was one of the principal reasons for the foundation of the first website in 2003 which organizes those collective actions.

The history of Flashmobs is very simple, but very funny. During the last years, uncountable group actions were organized around the world which caused great sensation. The first successful flashmob took place in New York in 2002. More than 100 people went to the store Macy´s and stood around a quite expensive rug. They told the sales assistants that they lived together in a warehouse and that they are searching for a “love rug”, but that they only made their decisions as a group. You can imagine that this action caused a lot of confusion and laughter.

However, flashmobs aren´t only organized in the country of the American dream, they also arrived to Europe. In uncountable European capitals they have already organized creative flashmobs, which make it possible for you to escape just for a moment from your everyday life. So, for example, a huge pillow-fight broke out in the very centre of Barcelona; or hundreds of passer-bys stopped moving suddenly and froze for a moment in time on the famous Alexander Platz in Berlin, then after five minutes they continued walking as if nothing had happened. Then there was Rome, where an uncountable number of people went to a bookstore asking for books that had never been written or published, or in Paris, where more than 7.500 persons organized a spontaneous dinner in white just next to the Arc de Triomphe…

First the flashmobs were just funny actions without any sense or meaning. But nowadays they are used by different social and political movements which have only one aim: to cause sensation in regard to a particular problem and to send their own message to the public. There is no better or more creative method than this idea by our new generation and the new technologies that we possess.

If you want to participate in one of the flashmobs in European capitals, then look it up on the internet. Why don’t you combine a freaky event with an unforgettable stay in Berlin? Germany’s capital will captivate you with its many monuments, museums and fascinating places full of cultural and historical importance. Berlin offers you as well a very special and enchanting atmosphere. Rent apartments in Berlin: the best alternative for having a cheap and comfortable accommodation during your holidays. The idea of speed dating itself is not new, and definitely not unique to the city of Berlin. The process is quite simple: singles register for local events in order to meet potential soul mates. All kinds of themes, age limits or sexual orientation are associated with the event which allows singles to attend the night that best suits them.

Speed dating Berlin-style almost certainly leads to Coffee Connection, a high class coffee house that has long since been a staple in the Berlin night life scene. Although it is not unusual for coffee houses to remain open until late, this particular location does not limit itself to coffee and snacks; full menu includes sandwiches, antipasto, beer, and an extensive wine menu which have made it a favourite among speed dating organizers throughout the city.

Of course, the Berlin night life would not be complete without the many Berlin nightclubs! This is your chance to hold a second date if you’re up for a long night with a new ‘friend’! Among the best places to go out, we must mention the Haifisch Bar which features sushi, live music, and is located in Berlin’s famous Kreuzberg, and the Sage Club, which is well known for its three dance floors. The ambience is not formal but still quite classy, and locals have long since considered these the premier addresses for cutting loose after a long day of work.

But Berlin wouldn’t be the extraordinary city we know it to be if it didn’t have “something more”. That is why Berlin is one of the top cities in Europe for Gay Speed Dating. Many websites and bars organise gay & lesbian speed dating in the German capital. The concept is the same as regular speed dating except girls meets other girls and guys meet, well, other guys!

The gay community is well integrated in Germany which explains the popularity of gay speed dating in Goethe’s nation. So what are you waiting for? Gay friends, straight friends, it’s time to go out and meet people. I can’t promise you a soul mate but I guarantee loads of fun and new friends at the end of the day.
