In almost the whole planet you´ll find the presence of style and fashion. It´s some sort of virus or plague, we´re all in or out of it, but there´s an unavoidable link that ties us to fashion; it´s an essential part of culture. So far in this 21st century, we´ve discovered that large amount of the interest from the public and the fashion designers, as well as those professionals from other forms of art or communication of western culture, points towards all of that that is a representation of vintage or retro. Is that damaging for contemporary culture? Possibly.
The first effects are felt in popular music above all. And so, music since the century started is nothing other than a revisit of the past, of the decades that go from the 60s to the 90s. Film, despite all of its technological advances and new ways of producing and creating films, just keep going back to the recurrent war, love or apocalypse themes so that the bank accounts remain full and the production companies can get their money back. We revive the same old stories over and over again and nobody seems to be affected by the repetition of the same narratives; in equal measure, life repeats itself, for everyone, in the consumption of fashion and its options, on occasions limited.
Today, being a designer is great business and many young people choose to follow this path as a career or a way of life. The social networks are a very useful resource to promote designs and designers, and the intense visual exchange that the network brings contributes to the new production of images, clothes and trends. It´s also though that cities have their own character when it comes to fashion, culture and style. Each city has its own connotations regarding the way of dressing in each season. In Berlin, without doubt, seasons are more differenced and imply that in each of them everyone has to change their image, look and attitude. And so, Berlin is a never-ending source of fashion, both for designers in search for new styles and for risky young people who want to try something of the newest and latest fashion.
This year, Berlin Fashion Week arrives at the German capital from the 3rd until the 8th of July to present the best in local, national and international fashion.
