The crazy nightlife of Berlin

Since the days of the Weimar Republic and even through the post-war years, Berlin’s nightlife has had the reputation for being some of the best in Europe. Today the goldmines are the techno clubs that have spawned from this city. In a short space of time these places, many in abandoned buildings on or around the former area of the East Berlin border strip, have created a scene that ranks among the most exciting in Europe. But Berlin has also a wide range of more traditional clubs, ranging from the hippest hangouts for the trendy to live music bars and places.

Together with New York and Madrid, Berlin has become a reference point for party-goers. It has an open-minded heterogeneous and indomitable social life along with a cosmopolitan nightlife.

Several distinct nightlife areas have evolved in Berlin, making it easier to spend an evening trawling a particular area before rounding it off in a late night club nearby. Friedichschain and eastern Kreuzberg are good areas for the grungiest and most cutting edge clubs. More established places are Prenzlauer Berg and the Spandauer Vorstadt, and also Shönenberg and western Kreuzberg, where they tend to attract an older audience. Mitte is the most visible face of the New Berlin and it is in constant evolution. It is also considered the most touristic quarter of the city.

There are a lot of fashionable clubs so called After-Work-Clubs. As its name says, you can have a drink and dance after work! There are some great pubs to go in Kreuzberg: Die Bar and Morena. Pinguin Club, Zoulou and Fischlabor in Schöneberg are a good choice too. The classic Harry’s New York Bar and Bristol Bar are quieter and more sophisticated. The most famous clubs are Annabelle’s, the Metropol, the Tränenpalast, the Sage Club or the Kit Kat Club.

As you see, Berlin offers a wide range of possibilities for going out. Berlin’s nightlife has an outstanding reputation. Every day new music trends are created in the clubs and they don’t have closing times like many other European cities do. For those who love to party, there are plenty of after-hours bars and clubs that are open until the following day.
